How are we already in September? 😲
With summertime officially coming to an end this month, there are a bunch of shifts in my personal life too. We are starting our school year back up next Monday (we’re excited but yikes) and the world around us shifting with the bright colors of the leaves and the chilly air – it feels like just yesterday I was anticipating summer and now here comes the fall season!
This is the time where I talk about how my goals for the previous month went as well as what I would like to try to work on for the current month. If you’re a goal-oriented person, keep on reading! Feel free to let me know what your goals are down below or talk about how August went!
Happy September! 🌻🍁
In August I Had The Following Goals
- Read three books (one has to be by Colleen Hoover)
- Plan and make preparations for homeschooling.
- Finish all summer coloring pages in my coloring book.
- Give my blog some TLC and publish eight blog posts.
- Establish a date night with Nathan (have four dates, one being unplugged)
- Optimize the apartment for more space.
- Film and edit four satisfying videos.
- Stop to smell the roses and be happier again.
Read three books (one has to be by Colleen Hoover) Completed.
I read the following books in August.
- All Your Perfects by Colleen Hoover ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
- Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren ⭐⭐⭐⭐
- Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid ⭐⭐⭐⭐
I heavily struggled with this goal and DNFed SO MANY BOOKS that I started panicking about this goal. It was nice to try Christina Lauren and Taylor Jenkins Reid because I hear many good things about these authors. If there is one thing I took away from this month is to NOT purchase a bunch of books by authors I have never tried before because Tessa Bailey’s writing style is not for me and that’s okay! All three books I finished were relatively enjoyable and I will keep trying their other books. So, yes, I did complete my goal of finishing reading three books and one of those was by CoHo.
Plan and make preparations for homeschooling. Completed
August was a lot busier than I was anticipating because I got consumed with depression and anxiety. I was so worried about my first ever homeschool review that I had so much resistance. We were also stressed out because finances got messed up and we cut into our other funds to take care of our family. It is slowly working itself out but it was beyond stressful. So, you will see a lot of “failures” with this month for goals!
But, the review was really painless and she was impressed with all of the work Aubri made this past year. So, with that out of the way, I was able to pick the curriculum for Aubri and start figuring out a rough schedule. This is going to mark as complete but there is still a bit of tweaking I need to get done before starting on Labor Day.
My parents were kind enough to help take some stress off by buying the workbooks and some supplies and I can not thank them enough for being there.
I do plan on making more homeschool-related blog posts in the future.
Finish all summer coloring pages in my coloring book. Incomplete.
An item on my bucket list is to finish every coloring page in a coloring book – don’t ask me why, it’s just one of those things, so I purchased a coloring book that features pages in every season. One of my goals for this month was to finish coloring the summer pages in this book and I have about three left.
But that’s okay because during a breakdown my husband was kind enough to remind me that I still have the beginning of September. So, this kind of softens the blow of not getting it done by now.
One thing I was not expecting was how bored I got using the alcohol markers. Although I loved being able to color much faster – it was so messy that I didn’t like a lot of the pages. It’s okay, though, because I’m just a hobby colorist.
Give my blog some TLC and publish eight blog posts. Incomplete.
This was by far the biggest failure of the month for me. I went into August with the hope of giving my blog some serious love. I wanted to fix it up and actually spend more time writing. But, every single time I would sit to type out a blog post – I would immediately delete what I was working on. I even have ten blog posts saved in the drafts that I have yet to even start.
Oh well, I guess it’s just one of those months and that’s okay. I hope that the upcoming fall season brings a bit more excitement back into my blogging energy. So, although I only posted three blog posts this month (once this one goes up) which is a huge fail – I did some editing of my banner and feel like it’s slowly coming into what I want out of my blog.
Establish a date night with Nathan (have four dates, one being unplugged) Complete
On the bright side – my husband and I got a lot of time together by forming a date night. We ultimately chose Saturday nights to spend the month together and would alternate who would plan the date that week. All of our dates had to be free and something we could do at home because we have responsibilities as parents. Three out of the four dates we did were actually unplugged. Our dates included downloading a challenge couple app, playing a board game (Jurassic World), playing video games for an entire day (surprisingly my choice), and coloring together.
Oh, and we binge-watched two shows – we finished the new season of Never Have I Ever and we only have one more episode of the new season of Stranger Things.
Optimize the apartment for more space – No.
We originally had an idea to move our entire apartment around but as I said before, we have been stressed to the maximum and the last thing I wanted to do was rearrange. So, I didn’t even touch this goal.
Film and edit four satisfying videos – No. Or, maybe?
I thought about trying to film some videos for YouTube like one of my favorites (Annika’s Leaf) or one of the restocking/cleaning Tik Toks but ultimately, this was not one for me. I had so many barriers and one is that I do not have video editing software for what I wanted it for.
However, I did post a lot of Reels over on Instagram which is something I didn’t plan to do, and definitely surprised myself with how much fun I had with them.
Stop to smell the roses and be happier again. Complete
This was one of those goals that I made without any clear direction and it really messed with me. However, I was able to find a lot of videos (especially Shorts) of sweet people and good deeds. It’s nice, especially in the era of constant negativity and unrealistic expectations of social media. I found a lot of sweet things that made me cry. I’m an emotional person so that’s not too challenging but it was nice to be more excited when something happy and nice came up on my phone.
With all of that out of the way – it’s finally time to share my September goals.
September 2022 Goals
A lot of my September is going to be shifting to homeschooling but here are the five goals that I chose to try to achieve this month.
Improve my building skills in The Sims 4:
Although I have definitely developed better building skills in TS4 (I have come a long ways from just a huge box), there are definitely a lot of things that I would like to learn how to do. Especially since I don’t use mods or custom content with my games. Learning how to build prettier and more unique homes for my simulation families sounds like so much fun.
Here are some ideas:
- Build a house how I normally would so I am able to compare to later.
- Follow a building tutorial.
- Use a building tutorial to try a new house.
- Try something fun and unique for a build (underwater home, platform rooms, etc.)
- Build at least six houses.
Upload five blog posts:
One of my goals in August was to get back into blogging but, as you could tell from reading this, or even just checking out my blog, that didn’t happen. So, for September, I hope to upload at least five blog posts. That should be simple – but you never know what life will throw at you!
Here are some ideas:
- Publish a blog post that lists my favorite songs lately.
- Publish a blog post about why I chose personal blogging even though they “don’t make it”
- Publish a blog post on things I learned a little bit later than I should have.
- Publish a blog post that is scary to share.
Finish reading two books:
To make things a little easier on me this month, I want to finish reading two books. I have been in a bit of a reading slump but I still love being able to have reading as a hobby again. I’m so proud of all of the reading I have done this year. So, in September, I want to read two books.
Here are some ideas:
- Read a Tessa Bailey book (I don’t enjoy her writing style)
- Read a book by Colleen Hoover (It Ends With Us)
- Read a thriller.
- Read a summer book to say goodbye to the season.
I’m unsure which books I will read but I hope to share that all soon! I also want to get back into going to the library and building a TBR for this season and it would be nice to have a list of books our library has so that I know not to purchase them in order to save money and whatnot. Oh, and I also want to declutter books I have already read and either sell or donate them!
Find a better way to organize the girls’ clothes:
We live in a small two-bedroom apartment with three daughters. We currently have one room where their toys are and the other where we all sleep and store our clothes. All of our clothes are either all over the place or shoved into the two dressers that we have. Instead of using our closets for random junk, I want to get them taken care of but the biggest thing that would help now is to bring all of their clothes into the playroom and hang them up into the closet. The closets are a decent size so they should all fit nicely.
If I’m feeling extra energetic, I would like to get my hands on a board to fix the closet (because that closet didn’t have storage space above the rack) and it would really come in handy with being smart with our layout. But I at least want to get through their clothes and have them hanging up nicely in their closet… hopefully this will prevent the little ones from throwing them all over the rooms.
Beat at least three sections in Luigi’s Mansion 3:
One of the things I was able to get myself at the beginning of the year was a Nintendo Switch and a few games. I have been loving getting into playing it again – especially after only playing multiplayer games for a good amount of the past few years.
One of the games I have is Luigi’s Mansion 3 and that’s been a lot of fun albeit a little bit stressful since I’m used to PlayStation controls and not Switch. It’s cute and creepy, and I really do enjoy it. I have about five sections left of the campaign (I think) so I want to get through at least three full sections in the game so when I do beat it, I can either hand it to my husband (or daughter) to play or sell it back for some more money.
There you have it! My five goals for the month of September 2022. 🥰
